Overview:

“Manaslu Circuit Trekking – Tranquil Himalayan Detour”

Manaslu Circuit Trekking is not allowed for solo trekkers. Nepal Government Licensed Trekking Guide and at least 2 trekkers are required for the Manaslu Trek permit. The trail is scenic and is the untainted Himalayan detour.

Trekkers have to get the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit and MCAP (Manaslu Conservation Area Project) permit to do trekking. There are numerous villages and dense forests on the trail. Excellent navigation skill is the first priority on this journey. Trekking Guides of Everest Buddha Treks are from the region. The agency always believes in providing the authentic information and impeccable services. Therefore, we hire the locals and train them. With us fun at an efficient cost is guaranteed.

Check out our Manaslu Larkya La Pass Trekking as well. It is shorter in comparison to Manaslu Circuit Trekking. Travelers can consult with the travel planners of Everest Buddha Treks for an excellent trip management. As the trail is listed among restricted trekking areas, expert planning is highly recommended for hassle free journey.

Almost every activities on Manaslu Circuit Trekking is similar to Larke La Pass Trekking. However, on this trip trekkers trek around the Larke Peak as well. The journey requires more walking hours.

Side Trip – Tsum Valley

Tsum Valley is also one of the hottest trekking destinations of Manaslu region. This requires additional two days. If you add two days on your trekking then you will not regret. The village of Tsum is very spiritual. It is believed that during famine people took shelter at the caves and valleys of Tsum where no famine occurred. It is sacred land where 8th eons meditated. Therefore, adding Tsum Valley on your itinerary helps to understand the mythical past of the area too.

There is an option for trekkers to make their trekking into the Great Himalayan Trail too. After crossing the larkya la pass trekkers meet the Annapurna Circuit trail. They can continue their journey towards Mustang region of Nepal after crossing the Thorong La Pass. It is challenging but doable activity. If you love adventure and walking, then extend the trekking either by adding Tsum Valley or Thorong la Pass crossing.

After breakfast in Soti Khola, you'll begin this epic trek up and down through various landscapes including forests, rice paddies, a cliff-face ridge, a rushing river, and several beautiful waterfalls. You'll then reach Khursane on a rocky trail. You'll eventually descend past a few ride paddies, then continue up and around to the picturesque Gurung village of Labubesi. From here, you'll further climb near a rocky outcrop where the valley opens up next to the river, which flows more peacefully here. Dropping down to the river shore, you'll walk along rounded stones before climbing over a side ridge. Head down again to the river and cross another suspension bridge to reach the village of Machha Khola. Overnight in Machhakhola.

Day 5

Trek from Macha khola to Jagat, 6-7 hours trek

Today you will enter the Manaslu Conservation Area while trekking to Jagat following the river towards the north. You may find a glimpse of bird and animal life along the banks. Facilitated by the Gurung ethnic group, Jagat has a very old settlement, clean streets and mani wall of Tibetan Buddhist culture. Overnight at Jagat.

Day 6

Trek from Jagat to Deng, 6-7 hrs trek

We begin today’s trek by climbing over a rocky ridge to Salleri, and then descend to Sirdibas. The valley widens a bit as the trail continues up to Ghatta Khola. We further continue walking upstream to a long suspension bridge in Philim, a large Gurung village. The trail turns north just above the lowest house in the village and stays on a fairly level trail as it crosses millet fields to Ekle Bhatti. The route now enters a steep, uninhabited gorge. At this point, we descend to the grassy land slopes, cross the Budhi Gandaki, then trek along the west bank for a while, then cross to the east bank and then back again. As we continue through the trail the valley widens and we pass through bamboo forests to the Deng Khola. Upon crossing the Khola, we reach the tiny village of Deng. Overnight in Deng.

Day 7

Trek from Deng to Namrung, 7-8 hours trek

Today you will get a little bit harder as the trail continuously climbs and dives until Bihi Phedi. Have lunch and some rest at Bihi Phedi and trek to Namrung. Namrung has small shops, new lodges, camping areas, and security checkpoint. From this village, the people are mostly of Tibetan origin. O/N at Namrung village.

You trek over a winding path which moves through the inner Himalayan range enjoying mountain views of Rupina la pass, Mt. Manaslu, Gorkha Himal, Dwijen Himal, Saula Himal, Lajing peak, and many other snow capped peaks. Climbing through a forest of firs, rhododendrons and oaks the trail enters the closely packed houses of Lihi and several Buddhist villages along the way. You will find many monasteries, chortens and mani-walls. Having over one hundred and fifty houses, Samagaon is surprisingly large and bustles with the energy of remote village life. From Samagaon you can see Mt. Manaslu and the Kutang Himal Massif.

Day 9

Accimilization day at Samagaun

This day is set aside to rest and acclimatize to the increasing altitudes. We stay in Samagaon and explore the surrounding areas or visit Birendra Tal and Anie Gompa. The main attraction of the day is the Pungyen Gompa with a spectacular view of the glaciers but it rather log day only recommended for the fit hikers. It is situated on a hill near Samagaon. We hike up to the Gompa named after the two peaks of Manaslu which means bracelet. It was destroyed when the Japanese first tried to summit the peaks. It was believed that the expedition to reach the summit might have angered the Gods. After the detour, we come back to Samagaon and spend the night there.

Day 10

rek from Samagaun to Samdo, 4 hours trek

We follow the Budhi Gandaki River up to a stream which we cross on a suspension bridge. From here we take the trail on the right to Larkya la. It is a fairly easy trail, passing through Mani walls and juniper and birch forests. We again cross a bridge over Budhi Gandaki and continue forward. From a stone arch, we can see a kani and after crossing it, we reach Samdo where we spend the night.

Day 11

Trek from Samdo to Dharmasala, 4 hours trek

We start our day trip by crossing a wooden bridge over Budhi Gandaki River and begin a hike upwards. After crossing a few streams and seeing a glimpse of the Larkya glacier, we go around a valley and make our way upwards again to reach a guesthouse called Dharmashala. This short walk to Larke Phedi provides enough time and rest to acclimatize for the further trek.

Day 12

Trek from Dharmasala to Bimtang via. Larkya La pass, 6-7 hours trek

After a short climb, we reach a valley on the north side of the Larkya Glaciers from where we can enjoy great views of Cho Danda and Larkya Peak. Finally, we walk across moraines of the glacier, making a gradual ascent which becomes steeper only in the last section of the pass. From the pass, there are outstanding views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kangguru and the huge Annapurna II. It is a longer day than usual to Bimtang, but to walk into these low pastures with the evening mist coming in with Mt. Manaslu looming close by is an overwhelming experience. Overnight in Bimthang.

Day 13

Trek from Bimthang to Tilije, 6 hours trek

After breakfast in Bimthang, head out to a nearby ridge where you can enjoy great views of Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal, and Cheo Himal. Keep descending on the trail and cross a high pasture followed by a bridge over the Dudh Khola River, rhododendron forest and follow a trail through a narrow valley until you reach at Karche. Pass through lush fields before making a steep climb over a ridge. The trail comes off the ridge in a big, sweeping arc to the river bank. A short distance beyond is the village of Gho where some trekkers choose to stay the night, but you'll continue walking until you get to Tilije.

Day 14

Tilje - Tal, 5-6 hours trek

The trail goes down to Dharapani where the Annapurna circuit trail is joined. But you will trek other routes to the village called Tal located on the sandy banks of the Marsyangdi River. This village is the last Buddhist place on the trek indicating prayer flags, mani wall and chortens. Dinner and O/N at mountain lodge in Tal.

Day 15

Trek from Tal to Syange, 6-7 hours Trek

After breakfast in Tal, follow the trail down a sometimes steep trail to the village of Chyamje crossing the beautiful Marsyangdi Khola (once again) via a suspension bridge. The valley of the same name opens with its terrace fields while villages clung very high to the hillsides. The trail then descends further through picturesque rhododendron and pine forests to get to the village of Syange where you'll stay the night. This is your last night on the trail! Before dinner, make sure to check out Syange's magnificent waterfall.

Day 16

Drive from Syange to Kathmandu, 8-9 hours trek

Wake up with breakfast in Syange and perhaps take one last walk around the village before you hit the road. The drive from to Kathmandu via Besi Sahar offers an opportunity to enjoy both hill and mountain landscapes often coming into direct view with the banks of the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers. You'll also drive by some beautiful villages with farming terraces on both sides of the road.

Day 17

I want to go on a trek. What is the best time and place for it?

Everything you want to do is time and cost specific. Besides, your experience in trekking will also matter. There is wide range of options in Nepal if you want to explore. If you arrive in proper season, that is, between September to November (Autumn Season) and March to May (Spring Season), you might just experience something that you will be able to cherish for the lifetime. The shortest of trek can be Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, Langtang Helambu Trek or the Annapurna Circuit. The Everest trek and the full Annapurna sanctuary Trek can be ideal if you have a little more time. Finally, if you are looking for something that’s longer and more challenging, you’re looking at Kanchanjunga or Makalu area Trek.

What are the best trekking routes?

Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Basecamp, Everest Basecamp, Dhaulagiri Circuit, Manaslu Circuit and Kanchanjunga are the most popular trekking routes in Nepal.

Should I trek with an agency or should I trek alone?

Trekking alone can be a good experience if you are familiar with the terrain and have quite a few experiences in the area. Nobody can drag you down, and you can move at your own pace savoring the pleasant sceneries around to you. However, if it is your first experience or so, you might want to travel in group or with an agency. Should situations like medical emergencies, isolation due to disasters, etc. occur, having a group can be a matter of relief. If you have no group and you’re all by yourselves, you can hire a porter or a guide.

Is communication to our home country possible while on a trek or climb?

Nepal’s communication facilities are getting day by day, and most portions of trekking routes have mobile phone coverage. In case of a climb, VHF or satellite phones are available at the base camp. In both cases, weather can play an important role in communication.
