The Complete Guide to Traveling in Nepal: What to See, Do, and Know

You're soon going to Nepal, right? GREAT choice! Our exhaustive Nepal travel guide includes all the practical information you need to have a fantastic trip, from visas and transportation to things to see, know, and do, health and safety tips, and more!

There is a reason why we adore Nepal, and you will too. It has mountains, rainforests, old towns, spiritual places, travel nirvana, and the friendliest people on earth.

The breathtaking natural environment is almost too obvious to mention, but it is a good enough incentive to travel to Nepal. While the sweltering lowlands bordering India offer many of Asia's best options for wildlife viewing, the towering Himalayan mountains offer some of the best hiking and mountaineering on the world.

For those of us who are thrill-seekers, the area around Pokhara has a fantastic selection of outdoor activities.

However, to us, Nepal's greatest strength is intangible. The moment you set foot on Nepali soil, you have a spiritual emotion.

When you are first met, you can sense it.You can sense it when a native says "Namaste" (I bow to the divine in you) to you for the first time, high in the snow-capped Himalayan highlands, and throughout the maze-like streets of Kathmandu and its breathtaking historical landmarks. You constantly and everywhere sense it.

It's challenging to really express the emotions, but you must go through it for yourself to fully get us and Nepal.

So why are you still waiting? We've created the most comprehensive Nepal travel guide we could to help you experience all that Nepal is known for. It is full of all the crucial information on visas, safety, what to see, know, and do, as well as how to get around, how to eat, and more.

HOW FAR IS NEPAL?
The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a landlocked nation in South Asia that is home to the Himalaya, the world's highest mountain range, which includes Mount Everest, as well as tropical lowland plains in the south.

Over 26 million people live in Nepal, the majority of them reside in the hectic, dusty capital city of Kathmandu (see our guide to Kathmandu here).

Nepal has shared borders with India to the south, east, and west, as well as China/Tibet to the north.

Although English is commonly spoken in many of the major tourist destinations, Nepali is the country's official language.

WHAT PERIOD IS BEST TO VISIT NEPAL?
The summer monsoon season is the center of Nepal's four primary seasons.

When the weather is bright and dry, the air is clean, and the mountains are most visible, we advise traveling after the monsoon season (late September to late November). Regardless of where you choose to travel to, peak season is the absolute greatest time to experience Nepal at its very best.

If this is not ideal, spring (from mid-February to mid-April) can also be a great time to travel. The days were longer and the weather was warmer when we visited on our Annapurna hike, which made for ideal hiking conditions.

We've also been there in late May, and despite the afternoon arrival of the early monsoon showers, the rest of the day was pleasant and the mornings were clear.

The ideal days, however, are somewhat marred by a haze that covers most of Nepal as a result of crop burn off. Low visibility, particularly in the Kathmandu valley and Pokhara, can make you more susceptible to disease (especially colds or chest difficulties!).

Mid-June to mid-September is the monsoon season, when Nepal comes to life. While hiking during this season is not recommended, you will be visiting during an interesting moment when there aren't many other visitors.
